ASAT vs Fusion

Is first lite setup quality clothing from base to outer...or should I be looking elsewhere?

If I could only choose one brand to wear, it would be FL. Great clothes made by a great company run by great guys.

I also believe they make some of if not the best clothing in any aspect besides rain gear.

I think it depends a bit on the terrain where you are hunting but both break up your outline pretty well. I know Elk don't see like humans but I still found this video interesting. Regardless of what the elk see, sometimes what I see gives me a bit more confidence and that can make a difference. Just my take, I know others will disagree.

The biggest thing I have against that review is the fact he uses a no-sheen merino piece in the fusion, and a shell layer in the ASAT. For goodness sakes, if you're going to do a comparison use the same damn piece in both patterns. The Fusion is to attract crossover buyers from Mossy Oak and Realtree, the ASAT is to kill stuff in. It's never been a designer pattern.

if you dont move and have good wind they wont see you.had a herd of 52 cows, calfs and spikes walk by me at 10 yards in an open burned area covered in snow. i was wearing a red/black buffalo plaid pendleton wool shirt with a blaze orange vest. as far as ASAT vs Fusion,i like the fusion because it has less dark colors. dark tends to turn into a blob of dark at long distance

That's the exact thing that ASAT guards against, blobbing up at distance. Fusion turns into a solid dark mass at distance, I've watched my buddies wearing it in the field. I would have to disagree and say I think the Fusion has far more dark colors than the ASAT does. For turkey hunting, absolutely, those freakin' things can bust you in a heartbeat. For elk and deer? ASAT

The fusion is to set FL apart, just like sitkas optifade, just like kuiu's, it's a branding. So when a guy sees a photo in a mag, or a video it's immediately recognizable. That's the point. Things have been killed in everything from leafy suits to orange logger shirts..

For me pattern means little to nothing, it's what type of clothes that pattern appears on. Fusion is on much more technical clothing, now that FL has dropped asat. That's a significant blow to the pattern, which is to bad as it is proven.

First lite still uses ASAT....they just created their own camo in fusion, but they aren't dumping ASAT.

I don't think FL dropped ASAT. Where did you hear that? They did, however, drop the Realtree patterns.

My mistake, I had heard some talk about them dropping the license for them as well, but it shows asat in the catalog so it obviously is still an option.

Yeah, FL isn't stupid, if they were to drop ASAT they would lose sales. You should try and source up some of the Sitka they did in that limited run in ASAT like 10 years ago. Occasionally it comes up on ebay and whatnot. Besides, I'm extremely familiar with FL as I was a dealer for those guys for several years. Kudos to them for making their own pattern, but to say it's better all around than ASAT is a stretch at best. It appears to be a good pattern, but until it's proven over decades like ASAT has been, it'll still be just another camo to appeal to the fashionable types who want to look good in their gear. I'm in my camo to kill stuff pretty much.

I'm going to have to go ASAT. Not for any technical reason but I sent my new Fusion top in for warranty because of a bad seam in December and was told it would be July before they had another shipment. They did offer me one in ASAT so I hope it works as well on bears.

This past season I used 4 different patterns just because that is the cloths I had. ASAT, Kuiu Verde and Vias, Kryptek Highlander in Koldo rain suit. I wore these through archery elk, early and late, and rifle deer. I feel I had better luck in avoiding detection with Kuiu Vias than any of the others except maybe Highlander which I only wore a couple of times when it was raining pretty good. All hunting west of I5 in Washington state. Standing in plain sight of elk while wearing Vias and they just looked at me. Walked by deer at 15 feet-30yds and they don't do anything but watch me and then I walk back past them and they ignored me. Walked up on a Coyote in early season at 20 yards, he ran off about 10yds stopped and turned around to look at me, ran off some more and turned again to look and again until about 60 yds away and he hit the trees. Seemed to get busted while wearing ASAT. The couple times I wore the Kryptek I watched some cows that were bedded across a gully about 60 yds away for a half hour, no clear shot, and she was watching me but didn't seem to know I was there. Next time was walking a road and elk stepped out in front of me at 30yds or so and looked my way then walked off and another one a few yards further down the road, same thing. No scientific research, just my experience. I bought more Kryptek so will be trying that more often this year.
