Pretty good overview read. It is geared towards cyclists, but there seasonal training aligns with Fall hunting season.

End of October and November: off-season
December to end of March: base training, higher volume strength training.
April to mid May: interval training, lower volume strength training.
June to late July: peaking for early season Ironman, easy strength.
Late July to End of August: base training, higher volume strength work.
September to early October: peaking for seasons key race (Ironman Hawaii), lower volume, higher intensity strength work.

Stew Smith has been pretty much followed a similar program for 20+yr. It was what his SEAL unit did by default. IE, lift in the winter for 6-8wk, then start "Crossfit" (before it was called that), run and swim in the summer. He attributes that periodization to what has kept him mostly injury free while maintaining a very high level of fitness.
