Arrowhead outfitters new owners

We had it all. Upper 60s for first couple days then snow and rain for a few days, and last couple days around 50. We were on east side of Hwy. biologists said we should’ve been on west side. He also said temp swings have them jumping back north with the warmth to get away from mosquitoes.

We did not. 20/20 hind sight. With the other group of 2 being 15 miles east and not seeing anything we figured it wouldn’t be better. Talking to locals now they’re wondering why we weren’t on the west side. Guess we should’ve done more due diligence… trusted the outfitter instead 🤷‍♂️

They were heavily discouraging moving saying over and over how things could change in the blink of an eye before going in… thinking more cost savings for them than advice. We were naive and just excited to hunt. With drastic weather changes we didn’t want to lose a day of hunting.

Do you have a location where your groups hunted out of? Were there any other groups you talked to going in/out when you were there?

I was 22 miles directly NE of lake we fly out. Other group was 15 miles straight east of us. We talked to a group on the dalton on the way up that tagged out on day 4 I believe. Not sure where they were. Owners told us many groups struggled the week we were in. They have a board at base camp recording harvests. Success rate was at 40% and that includes residents harvesting cows.

Got back home to the lower 48 yesterday after trip with Arrowhead. No prior experience with Arrowhead or caribou hunting but was pleased with the service and new ownership (Steve) seemed great. I enjoyed chatting with him and his crew.

They got us in the field on our scheduled day and got us pulled a day early at our request.

We had 5 guys and 6 tags - we filled 5/6 with our bowhunter being the only one not to tag out. No wolves or wolverines seen. Did see a couple grizz.

Pilots seemed very skilled; I flew with one in and the other out. One of them wasn't very pleasant and seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world. The other was great, exactly the type of person you want couriering clients to and from the field for their dream hunt.

I have no reservations with recommending Arrowhead to anyone and would have no problems booking with them again in the future. Just don't buy their dry bags 🤣 - they're terrible.

Two thumbs up from this dude for Arrowhead!

Good to hear! After Arctic Air cancelled our hunt on us this year, we got the last available spot Arrowhead had for next season. Hopefully it works out for us this time, we're anxious to check this hunt off our bucketlist and move onto planning our other hunts.
