I talked to G&F Upland Biologist and he said last year was good for Gambels and Scaled Quail. I missed out to get my right hip replaced in early December. Apparently, there is a really bad drought for the Gambels nesting and Scaled Quail, which breed after Scaled Quail. Even with a good monsoon season that they are expecting the Mearns numbers are down so much the season wouldn’t be good.

Luckily, 120 miles to the North is the Mojave Desert, Victorville, and Ridgecrest that should be good. Instead of driving 500 miles to Southern Arizona, I’ll spend more time on the prairie hunting Sharptails, Prairie Chickens, and Pheasants!

I am not surprised. This year I arrowed a deer in Dec and a javelina in Jan, both animals were the leanest I'd ever seen. I've never seen it so dry and brutal out there.

Last year was the hottest ever… super dry too. I said the bird season will suck.
