Understanding you have to apply 5 consecutive years for a specific species to earn a loyalty point that stays with you forever as long as you apply each year.

My question is, if you were to draw a tag before the 5 years but continue to apply each year after that does that suffice for the 5 years?

Example - I have 1 AZ elk point as a NR. If I were lucky enough to draw an anterless elk archery tag this year (low probability) would I have to start the 5 years over again, or would I gain the loyalty point in 3 years as long as I continue to apply?

I’m trying to decide my strategy for 2025. Apply for a higher percentage draw, or apply for a tag I know I have no chance of getting but ensure I am on track to get the loyalty point if that’s the case. Thanks

As long as you don’t skip an application cycle you will retain (or build number of applications towards) your loyalty point regardless if you draw or not.

Loyalty point is awarded after 5 consecutive "valid applications", drawing a tag has no effect, and, the loyalty point is awarded prior to the draw of the 5th year as it is tied to the application, not the draw.

Hey just a heads up, make sure the state is actually awarding your loyalty points.

I had not received a loyalty point for elk, deer, antelope and couldn't find out why, or when it would be applied to my account. I called the Game and Fish and turns out it had merely been overlooked. They fixed the glitch.

So if you think you are entitled to a point that isn't on your account, you may be right.
