I’m starting to get interested in the idea of hunting black bear. So far the closest I have gotten are some tracks running perpendicular to a trail. Any tips for a aspiring Arizona black bear hunter?
If it is prickly pear country and it is glassable, get out when the fruits are ripe and start glassing. Check water holes in the area for tracks, check all trails for scat. Get off the trails and look for areas where rocks and logs have been overturned. Familiarize yourself with the AZ bear hunting regs and buy a tag. Go hunting!
Depends on where your hunting. Lots of manzanita berries and acorns this year. Bears will be hitting those. Get up early and glass in the morning and in the evenings. And have a good water source. I grew up never seeing bears. Now that I know how and where I see bears every time I go looking.
