Hello, Similar to last year one of my hunting partners drew an Elk tag and I got skunked. This time the tag is forArea 091 Nevada/Utah. Anyone familiar with this tag knows that this a coveted tag as they only give out 3 tags in NV and 3 tags in UT, Hunter can hunt both States. Oh did I mention its a rifle tag right in the middle of the bugle Sept 13- Oct 3. The Hunter is my best friends dad who drew after 20yrs. He is in his 60's but in good shape and is a great hunter. Anyways on to the question.

Does anyone have any advise for this unit/area. This will be our first time there and we want to get him a giant this year.

Not if I beat you to him! My dad is one of the other 2 tag holders. We have not hunted the unit before but have talked to a few that have and it seems like a mixed bag. Some shoot them south, others north, down low and a one up high. With the extremely low hunting pressure I think they just wander and group up on there own instead of moving away from people. Good luck and may we both find a beast of a bull.

Haha, what are the chances of that! We have been talking to a lot of people locally but I thought I would see if there was any E- info out there.

Unit is small enough I don't think it will be hard to check it all out in a couple of days, I don't think there is any secret to that unit but if there is why don't you send it my way. So thats two old men with the tag I wonder who the third person is? Should be a blast of a hunt though and really look forward to packing some elk quarters for my dad.

Just remeber there are always piw tags to compete with!!! and because it is so small don't hesitate on something you want. call the local biologist see how the herds doing and when he expects the rut to kick. If I can give you one piece of advise, If sitting ontop of the mountain every morning and evening is an issue for you, wait until the rut kicks off probably be around 9/15.. It is like a light switch in that area. instead of all the elk feeding up into cover in the morning. they are literally down low bugling there hearts out. Put some boots on the ground and some glass on the hill and i am sure you guys will have a great time. good luck to both of you and don't forget to share with your fellow boys and gals over here ;)

Thanks Casey, we will definitely be putting boots on the ground and glassing our ass off. We were thinking of getting there on opening day on the 13th and scouting/hunting until the rut really kicks in.

PIW hunters cannot hunt 091, the dream silverstate, or heritage tag can but they usually hire outfitters and pull Ely bulls. Now if a 400"+ is spotted the outfitters for heritage will be in there.

Your right chukar and believe it or not I watched a silver state tag take a bull in my glass in 091.
Just wanted to let them know expect the unexpected like most hunts! Haha

I realize this is two years old but I am wondering how Battleborn's and NVChukar's hunt went?

My sis drew this tag, this year and we are pretty excited. Looking for a little info on the best spot to camp and how the roads/access is.

Thanks for the help!

Hunt went great my dad got q good bull. Rut started and then stopped as the temps got into the ,90s. Access is good especially where there is water.

I drew this tag for the rifle elk hunt. Never been in 091 but I'm planning on spending a lot of time up there this summer. Any of your insight from you guys is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Rokslide. You should take an opportunity to look around a bit and you'll find this community is pretty awesome.

Now unfortunately we aren't letting FNG's (new guys) post up unit specific questions. Any unit question/answers remain out in the world wide webs forever, which can doom some really great spots.

Rokslide's administrations expectation is that all long standing Rokslide members will understand and support this concept and take all such conversations to private message.

Yes it's a hassle to join and be part of this community but the rewards are worth the effort including the ability to send and receive private messages.

Hope to see you active in the forums, and good luck on your hunt, that's a really good tag.

I totally get and appreciate that. Last thing I would want is to have a spot get burned. I’m not looking for anything more than a good spot to look for a camp and maybe some good access spots around or through the private along the range.
