Are expensive picatinny rails worth it?

Thanks for all the responses. Hopefully this will help someone out in the future:

I have 3x model 70s that all share the same hole spacing: from the front of the gun, they measure .862" (holes 1&2) 3.805" (holes 2&3) and .863" (holes 3&4). EGW part number 42100 "Winchester STD/LA (Pre64) 0MOA Tactical Scope Mount

One of these guns is a Featherlight 270 made in Columbia, SC. The other two are New Haven CT made Classic Stainless (7mm Rem Mag and 338 Win mag). All three use the above spacing

The oddball is a 300 RUM, also a Classic Stainless from New Haven. It uses the "Winchester 70 HH .325 rear spread"

The two rails I got for test fitting are both the cheapest EGW offers, their basic 6061 standard rails. Both fit all three guns as close to perfectly as you could want. One rail on one gun when screwed in from the first screw only had the most miniscule amount of play in the rear. Talking thousandths of an inch, if that

I don't love how high even extra low rings end up on a rail but the quality of EGW certainly hasn't dropped since the last couple I bought.

I'll keep you posted which direction I end up going

PS the Leupold Backcountry one piece base/rings absolutely do not align using 30mm alignment rods on the Featherlight. I'll try them on the other guns later this week

The two piece Burris XTB are the lowest pic rails on the market for the M70.
