I have a 60 pound draw weight and a 28 inch draw length and I am wondering if that's good enough for me to hunt elk. I wanted some advise.

60lbs and a 28” draw is plenty to kill an elk…at reasonable distance. Traditional bows with lower poundage kill elk every year.

Depends on your arrow set up and of course shot placement. 60lbs is still considerable weight to get some distance…60 yards and in should be more than doable. I took my last 6x6 bull elk at 72 (bedded/broadside; shifting wind wouldn’t allow me to close distance) with 65lbs and 29” draw. I was using 300gr Pierce platinum with a 100gr rage expandable. Took an antelope with the same setup at 80yds following year. Brother-in-law took a 5x6 I called in at 35yds with 65lbs and 28” draw as well with carbon express maxima red 350gr and same 100gr expandable.

Yeah, with right placement. The Pierce platinum arrows are a micro diameter and get deeper penetration…I actually sent a second arrow with full pass through on that same elk at 90 after he jumped up from the first shot. First at 72 buried in to the fletching. Some guys will set their arrows up with a heavier FOC (more weight forward) to help with penetration/pass through as well.

Nice what state do you hunt in. Those deer don't look familiar to me. It looks like you got close to the heart on that shot. There's nothing like the feeling of getting an animal.

lol…yeah, actually was the largest of the 3 does that came in. I did get a buck on my next trip out though. (Axis were in TX; elk was in AZ)

My first bull was shot with a 60# Bowtech Insanity with a 28" draw length. 55 yards. Heart shot. Great memory.

60lbs - 28” draw and fixed blade broadheads will be fine for standard hunting ranges (60 yards+).

I would suggests a good 2 blade fixed head with an arrow weight around 400-450 grains total weight.

People get hung up on complete pass through shots - it’s not needed and doesn’t happen most of the time. On quartering to/from or frontal shots this set up should bury to the fletchings/nock and kill quickly (arrow length+ penetration). Broadside shots might pass through or the last few inches of fletching may hang up on the off side (30-40+ inches of penetration).

Now Cape buffalo, Hippo, Rhino, Giraffe, and Elephant would be a bit light (and not probably not legal)
