Archery Tag Strategy: California Mule Deer, Elk, Audad and Javelina.

Hey RS,

I’m building out my strategy for Cali Mule, Elk (considering what’s still open) Audad, and Javelina.

I’ve been hunting archery hard locally for blacktail, and pig in California. Super focused on all above. As well focused to build points.

There’s aoudad in Cali? Or are you just wanting to hunt those species wherever you can?

AZ for archery Javelina and the OTC archery deer tags. Plus not a bad spot to start putting in for elk for the later season stuff.

New Mexico for elk, deer, aoudad and javelina. No points, so throw your name in the hat and keep your fingers crossed.

As far as Aoudad go, NM and TX are your main options. I know there a few in Oklahoma in places, but haven’t ever looked around at what it takes to hunt them there.

Otherwise you didn’t really ask much of a question, so not giving me much to go on as far as what info you’re looking for.

No Aoudad in California. Spreading the board and seeing what areas to target.


Yeah, I was not super specific in terms locations. I like the New Mexico options. I have Aoudad, Javelina in the cart with NMDFG. Think I’ll add in a deer tag and let it rip. NM has a cool program.

I’m super interested in hunting NM, AZ and Tex.
My elk locations would be ID, AZ, and NM.

Appreciate your feedback, looking for the best way to optimize with the species. It’s a lot to cover. Considering Muley’s and Elk alone, I have a lot of work.

There are in fact free ranging aoudad in CA. No javies to hunt though.
