archery grouse

I’ve shot a ton of grouse with a bow. Get a judo point, and aim for the base of the neck. Little bit bigger target than the head. If you shoot a carbon arrow I’d be a little wary of breaking arrows/splintering. I did it a lot with an Easton fmj a couple years ago and got probably 20 grouse out of a single arrow. Granted it was bent to shit and hard to shoot further than 20 yds.

I used to shoot a lot of grouse while elk hunting, but not much anymore. Maybe if I'm on my way back to camp. I just use old BH's. Whatever I shot blew right through them so didn't really matter. My grouse arrows are some of my old TR Crush arrows.......toughest arrows I've ever used. Haven't broken one shooting grouse yet.

+1 for judo point. I keep 2 aluminum shafted flu flus in my quiver just for them. Carbon and wood arrows have a way of expoding. This is with a 68 pound trad bow.

Grouse are always in trees it seems when I’m hunting with my bow.
Judo point and fluflu fletchings are nice and my preferred setup if I’m thinking ahead.

But sometimes I just use an elk arrow with a field point. RIP to my RIP TKO’s. I really should plan ahead more.

As for placement, I’m not very sophisticated. Center mass all day. But again, they are usually in trees for me.

I have shot a few handfuls. I usually swap heads, removing the broadhead and shooting a wire-loop bird point. My first one almost 40 years ago) I shot with a fixed-blade broadhead and neatly lopped off his noggin.

I like the blunt because they push thru brush to get to limb chickens, and dont deflect as bad as a broadhead.
I have seen guys put a washer behind a field point but havent tried that myself.
