Last year was my first year hunting Colorado's unit 53 and it was cut short by almost losing 3 fingers. After surgery and a miserable recovery I have now regained 90% of their function and will be returning again this September. I'll be coming into the unit from the northern boundary on horse. I will be there the first week of bow season, and would really appreciate any insight anyone might be willing to share on elk hunting that area.

Thank you

Sorry about your fingers, glad to hear you still have both eyes.

Look further down this page, look at the number of views vs posts, and realize that posting units (let alone actually following the advice publicly posted) is a poor choice. This thread will also be locked, given Rokslide's policy on threads with unit numbers from new members.

Well this is almost certainly going to get locked for the FNG posting unit numbers…but I gotta hear about the fingers before that lol. Glad to hear you didn’t lose them.

Definitely sounds like a forum I don't want to be a part of

well in that case, unit 53 clearly isn't working out for you. you already have the unit, a way in and a horse so what do you expect to get here? the elk will be standing by the 60' tree.

Welcome to Rokslide. You should take an opportunity to look around a bit and you'll find this community is pretty awesome.

Now unfortunately we aren't letting FNG's (new guys) post up unit specific questions. Any unit question/answers remain out in the world wide webs forever, which can doom some really great spots.

Rokslide's administrations expectation is that all long standing Rokslide members will understand and support this concept and take all such conversations to private message.

Yes it's a hassle to join and be part of this community but the rewards are worth the effort including the ability to send and receive private messages.

Hope to see you active in the forums, and good luck on your hunt, that's a really good tag.
