I have a BCM mid length 16 AR rifle, upper has the old school front post, I believe I've heard it called.
I want to get an upper without the big old front site and add my own.
Question is, can I buy something from Palmetto State Armory and use it on a BCM lower?

Absolutely can. You can also save a little coin if needed and swap over your bcg and charging handle if you’d like.

Personally I’d prefer to have a separate bcg and charging handle for each upper, however it is an option. Also if you like the upper you could swap the front sight post for a low pro gas block and get a longer rail for it as well. It’s easy enough to do yourself but it’s also more involved then just slapping a new upper on it.

Yes, absent something out of left field, you can. It you want to keep it all BCM, they sometimes have some decent deals on complete uppers.

I'd go with this plan, switch out the post for the low pro gas block and keep it all BCM. The upside to the new upper is you can switch calibers to other AR-15 compatible calibers if you like.

Sure can, I believe BCM has stripped upper blems too for $60 too if you want to dip your toes into building your own.
