Appalachian slam

Unfortunately if you are talking about all of the states that have the Appalachian Trail running through it. The GREAT GOVERNOR MUPHY of NJ canceled our bear hunt by executive order and then threatened DEP to not do the 5 year bear study required to keep it going if they wanted to keep there job. So we only have deer available.

That sucks. Sadly. As I have looked at it. It’s a logistical nightmare. Especially when you have limited vacation

Wow that's ridiculous. I know of a few bears on the Pa/NJ line. They go back and forth in a quarry. Was a 1,000 lb one, not sure if it's still around.

My uncle has harvested 3 bears in our home state of PA. Seems every 3 years he connects on public land. I've got to shoot at a running bear once with no success. My neighbor took a 768 lb male with his compound bow 4 years ago.

Biggest bear I’ve ever killed was 400. It was to dogs I’m trying the bow thing only.

Especially since on our last season that we were open the archery world record was taken from NJ.

Every year NJ had a few taken over 700 and several weighed over 800 pounds taken when the season was open.

It’s amazing how everyone that loves fuzzy animals thinks they are doing them a favor by protecting them from us.

I think just shooting a buck from each state with a bow would be a great accomplishment.

Throwing in a bear would be tough. I don’t think Kentucky allows non-residents to bear hunt. These big woods make it hard to find bears. But you know that. Without bait those bears are hard to pattern. And we don’t really have good areas to glass long distances.

Ain’t that the truth. I was looking at the harvest report. Haywood county has .96 bucks per square mile

Anyone complete the Appalachian slam yet. Just curious

Working on it, it's taking a few years to do. All taken on public land in the national forest here in TN. Started in 2019 when I moved to East TN. I did take a bear but it was in the river bottoms behind the house so I don't count it towards the slam. I also shot one with my bow My first year hunting the mountains and lost him. Still hurts.

If it gives you an idea. The picture kneeling in the rock cliff is in a deer trail used by one certain buck. Took a whole year to figure that out.

I do agree. I keep running into these 2 river otters in this one creek. I am desperate to get a picture of them. I sat and watched them in my binoculars for 15 last year. Tried to get close and gone. Also walked up on 10 grouse fluffed up fighting trying to whoo some females. Could not get a pic.

We don't see alot of Grouse here in the south but there's still a few around. I'm convinced I could have picked this one up if I wanted to.
