Anything Better Than Raven Wear

I've been using Raven Wear since the early to mid 90s. I still pick up pieces when I can, but it sells for crazy prices, as-in I can buy new Sitka Gear for what RW is selling for used.

For those of you who hunt extreme cold, what else is out there that is on par with or better than RW?

I have some Ravenwear. It’s well made durable and warm but it is heavy and when it gets wet it is brutally heavy. Lots of much lighter warm stuff from the name brands. I think the best value is Skre’s Guardian jacket and bibs especially the bibs. Also if you stand hunt the Pnuma heated vest puts out an amazing amount of heat and is often on sale at half price.

Unfortunately when hunting whitetail, 99% of my hunting is from a stand or blind.

Gauging from the amount of replies, or lack thereof, you and I are the only cold-weather hunters on the Slide, lol.

I’ve never used Ravenwear. I hadn’t even heard of it until this thread. I hunt in all weather.

A $20 military surplus poncho is about the most useful thing you can add to your hunting outfit. Particularly one light enough to fit in a cargo pocket. If you are walking out to a stand, or still hunting for the day, all you need is warm and dry. Just about anything answers that requirement if you add the poncho to it. If you are hiking into the backcountry, then I would start to look at more expensive gear.

Raven Wear was a premier cold weather hunting clothes company in Canada that I think went out of business around 2010. Sitka was just starting to take cold weather whitetail stand hunting seriously then and Kuiu and First Lite were just getting off the ground so lots of hunters have never heard of it.

Stud Duck the Pnuma heated vest is well worth the money and like I said the Skre Guardian is a good value. I have not tried it but the Kuiu Super Down Haven line gets good reviews. Lots of bowhunters me included like the Sitka Fanatic line. You’ll find much of the new cold weather clothes have down fill and are much lighter than the Raven Wear. The Heater Body Suit is very warm too but it’s not my cup of tea for stand hunting.
