Anyone see skunks eat rattlesnakes?

We got skunks in camp all the time, I've darn near stepped on them and they've been super chill. We have two dogs, one of them is flat stupid. He's been skunked I think 12 times now? We call him Skunkmaster 12,000 now. He leveled up since Skunkmaster 3,000. Anyway, other dog never got hit at all, she'll go back and sniff near it, but the stupid dog actually tries to bite the skunk and it actually takes aggressive physical contact to make these skunks spray. I saw enjoy your new striped smelly cat and if he runs off some rattlers it's a bonus. We don't kill skunks, coyotes, or raccoons near camp because rattlesnakes are a much worse enemy for us around there.
Our prairie rattlers are about like the skunks you are describing. Only had one dog get bit but she was biting at the snake for a good minute before it struck. Most the time the snakes will tuck tail and hide their heads before getting aggressive. This skunk has shown zero interest in us or the house yet. Hopefully he stays out in the meadows hunting packrats and snakes and leaves the house and dogs alone.

You have to admire his perseverance… or not.

Just thought I would follow up on this one here. We decided to let our little stinky buddy be until he became an issue. I have seen the skunk here and there, usually on my drive to work at 4:30 am, but always a decent distance away from the house. He hasn't been seen trying to get to our chickens and no issues with the dogs so far.

I talked with some of the closer neighbors last night and none of us on the top of the hill have had a rattlesnake around this summer. Our friends that live about a mile away as the crow flies have killed 4 in their barn and 2 on the road this year. They have not seen a skunk anywhere near their house.

Not sure if this is coincidence or not but seems to me like the skunk might have some correlation to a snake free summer. As of now I am still happy to let old stink butt hang around if that means less nope ropes.

I am getting pretty soft as I get older. But no way am I leaving a skunk around. Had a rabid skunk on my back porch chewing on my dogs back foot a few years back. KILL THAT THING!

Was the dog already dead? I haven't dealt with rabies bites before but I have had to deal with a dog getting bit by a rattlesnake and that is no fun either.

I did some fur trapping in high school. Caught a skunk one morning before school. Dispatched it from 50 yards or so, ran the rest of the line, came back an hour later and got him taken care of. When I came back in the house my sister on the other side of the house said she could smell me as soon as I opened the door.

Under normal circumstances I haven’t had any issues with them as long as I’ve let them be.
