Just curious if anyone uses a bore snake to clean there hunting rifles? Im currently shooting a tikka .270 and a Christensen ridgeline 300wsm

I use one when I'm away from home. I shoot a 7mm rem mag and wife shoots a .270 so its the same snake for both guns.

I use bore snakes for everything. Just got one for my 30-378 and ran it a bunch of times after the season was over. You can’t beat the ease of use.

I use one for quick touch ups especially on trips but not for really cleaning. Definitely serves a purpose, but not a substitute for actually cleaning a bore.

Be sure to test the string on that sucker regularly. Not fun when the cord rips off with the thing stuck in there.

I'll use one in wet or dusty conditions just to get contaminants out, but it's definitely not doing a full clean.

I carry some weed eater line and a bore snake in my pack for clearing mud, dirt, snow ect.. while hunting.
Never considered one for actual cleaning. How would you apply solvent, then oil, all while cleaning?

Funny I saw this! Truly just new to me I picked up a 1994 Remington 700 VSSF in 308 today, walked in the door, & ran a bore snake threw it twice.

Never used a snake, but stepping up to a one piece extra long cleaning rod with a nice handle was a game changer. Used to use the old three piece jobs with the T handle that come with most cleaning kits. Splurging on one of these was a great decision and makes cleaning way less of a pain...

No. And guys need to realize you don’t need to clean your rifle anywhere near as often as you think. I make sure at least a minimum of 40-50 rounds are through the barrel after a cleaning before talking it on a hunt.

For in between actual cleanings I just use a couple drops of CLP and run the snake through a couple of times

I use bore snakes almost exclusively for my handguns and shotguns. For hunting rifles, I generally clean with a rod and patches, but I carry a bore snake on trips in case field cleaning is necessary due to rain or dust.

I generally agree that you should not over-clean your bore, but with magnum calibers, I find copper build-up can really degrade accuracy. Groups on my 300 Win Mag. will start to open up after about 30 rounds. I clean about that frequently with a copper solvent such as Sweets 7.72 or Butch's Bore Shine.

I use one to wipe out a barrel not "clean" it. Dust, moisture (snow), excessive un burnt powder (think prairie dog shooting). I also use them on my shotguns for the same reason. IMO again it is not for cleaning but getting loose debris/moisture grit out of there barrels.
