Anyone looking forward to 17-18 upland season?

As deer season begins to wind down here over the next few weeks I will be hitting the woods chasing grouse and woodcock. I dont have a dog so its really just hiking with a shotgun hoping to flush a few. I have several spots on public land that produce a couple flushes every time. I also got the go from my uncle to grouse hunt his lease after deer season. Its full of birds. My average year probably produces 10-12 grouse and 5-6 woodcock in a dozen or so trips. Nothing spectacular but I combine hiking, scouting and bird hunting into one.

Heading out tomorrow on my private deer lease to try and flush some grouse. I have two spots where I have consistently seen 3-4 birds every time,I have sat there. After that, if I have time I will head down the road to my uncles land. He said he's seen several woodcock over the last month. Would love to get a doodle. I've flushed a couple over the years but never connected.

Did not get to hunt last week, got rained out. Went out today. It was 9 degrees at daylight. Flushed one grouse, no shot. Shot 3 squirrels. Found a new spot on my private land that has some potential. Will head back next week. My uncle text me and said he saw 4 grouse and two woodcock this AM on his deer lease. Deer season ends Monday so i can start hunting his land after that.

Super cold this am in KS but managed to kill 3 roosters and quail.

Good times.

First bird season for my Drahthaar, it's been pretty good. Starting to wind down, only a few weeks left, were not ready for it to end.
