Anyone just carry a folder knife?

Benchmade tagged out. Picked it up on a whim and have used it on an elk and several deer. I still keep a fixed blade in my kill kit but I don’t see myself changing for any reason.

Which model of spyderco do you carry. I’ve been looking lately.
I carry Spyderco's Stretch 2XL - used to carry a Stretch but gave it away to a new hunter and then got the Stretch 2, which I also gave away to someone that needed a good knife. So, now I am on the Stretch 2XL. I like the blade shape and finger choil for field work and lately tend towards large bladed knives. Before that it was a Gerber Folder, Puma Game Warden and a Buck folder. So, I have always liked folders as they are compact and I don't baton them to split wood (unless an emergency). As an aside, I have a Randall bird and trout, and several Case Westerns but they tended get in the way with a backpack when belt carrying.

Ive carried a handful of different knives. Usually as a tool and then using a havalon for quartering. Recently Knifecenter ran a deal on Para 3 LWs in Magncut for $118. I picked one up and used it on a couple speed goats. the blade shape isn't perfectly ideal but the price point was awesome.

I'm not a bit embarrassed to admit that my wife and I field dressed, skinned, broke down, and 80% butchered a large cow with the infamous Walmart Ozark Trail D2 folder this year. I found 3 of em on clearance for $4 ea. The dang things are still shaving sharp with nothing more than the occasional stroke on an old school butcher steel.

The other 20% was done with a $10 Cold Steel CBK. It doesn't take a top dollar custom to do the job.

Best regards,
John

I’ve used a Kershaw Folding Field knife for over thirty years. I had to sharpen it for the first time last year. The old ones made in Japan have great steel in them.
