Anyone just carry a folder knife?

Anyone just carry a normal folding pocket knife for quartering and deboning? I've always used a large fixed blade made by Marbles in the past. Great knife, easy to sharpen, just heavy. I always have a 3" spyderco on me though. I use that for everything year round. Any reason not to ditch the fixed blade and just carry the folder?

I carried a folder for the first 10-12 (?) years. Inexpensive kershaw with lower quality steel. It worked fine. Required lots of resharpening per animal but did the job. Only bought it because it weighed 3 oz and I didn’t have much money at the time. Have since upgraded to lighter and more expensive knives. It doesn’t really contribute to the overall success rate or killing an animal though.

I carry a small bench made folder for processing game but I always like to have at least 2 knives at the very least so I’ll also Cary either one of my fixed blades or a Havalon.

Which model of spyderco do you carry. I’ve been looking lately.

Early in my hunting career I only carried folders cause I was on a folder kick at that time in my knife collecting journey. Definitely nothing wrong with it and if it works for you then go for it.

Ultimately, I chose to go back to fixed blades for the ease of clean up. I’m pretty particular about the condition I keep my gear in and I got tired of cleaning all the little places meat/blood would get in the folders. May not be as big of an issue to some.

I carry 2 different spyderco knives when hunting 1. Is a K390 serrated edge endela (edc ) then either or a m390 , s35vn endela as a 2nd when hunting,
Sometimes a spyderco vg10 endura

Usually good for 2-3 deer or elk and still be working sharp .

I was looking at the spyderco native, the cleaning of a folder is a drawback for sure. Wasn’t sure how I would like the thin handle for an entire animal.

I used my M4 Para 3 LW on a bear for the first time this spring. The thick, early spring bear fur liked to catch on the finger choil. And it took some cleaning at home. Aside from that, it worked really well. The Spyderco ergonomics were great for breaking down an animal, and the M4 blade still had its fresh sharpened fine edge after the entire animal.
Haven't decided what to use this fall, it seems like deer/elk/antelope hair wouldn't get caught on the choil like bear fur did. I have one in 15v that should easily handle a full elk without losing much of the edge.

I bet 15V would clean game all year without any problem
I should just bite the bullet and buy some!
I have a camp or lodge to stay in so don’t worry about cleaning my knives till then . I do have some moraknifv fixed blades that I use and they get just as much fat , hair and blood on them as any folding blade and still have to be cleaned anyway

I went up shooting during deer season once and only had one game bag in the back seat, and a kershaw leek in my pocket. Of course I ran into a shooter buck and quartered the whole thing up, but the knife was pretty dull by the time I got to the tenderloins.

As I get older less BS seems better as does less weight, so my journey through folders, fixed blades and then customs has led me to a outdoor edge edc folder and replacement blades
