Anyone Interested in Driving from Idaho to Alaska?

Thought I would throw this out on here on the off chance anyone was interested in an adventure. Looking to ship a car I have in Idaho up to my home in Alaska. Pretty expensive.

That said, anyone interested in doing the drive? If so, hit me up. I would pay for gas and reimburse a bit for your time. Could also look at getting a return mileage airline ticket home.

Or... does anyone know the most cost effective way to ship a vehicle up to Alaska?

Thanks!
Brian

Big state. Which part you shipping to?

I ended up needing it sooner than later because my GMC Duramax seems to keep having issues with DEF and oil pump? FML. Not a cheap engine to work on. Makes me want to park it on the river and let it go out with the ice.

I found a company called Wrightway Auto Carriers and it ended up being about $2500 from Tacoma to Anchorage. Not too bad. Most of the other shippers were close to $4000.

That's a decent price. I used Alaska auto transport about a year ago and it was about $2800 from Seattle to Anchorage. Not worth making the drive when you consider fuel, motels, food, time off work etc unless you're hauling a trailer full of stuff. It's a neat drive. Lots of wildlife to see in the spring.

Back when I was young and single I did the drive from Fort Benning, GA to Fairbanks, AK. Super fun and quite the adventure. Alaska Highway should be on everyone's list - it's awesome!

Sure wish I had time to do it again, but with three young kids I barely have time to eat let alone drive the ALCAN for 3-4 days.

What’s the border crossing like these days ?
And are they letting you cross with ANY weapons

Handguns and AR type rifles are a no (I don’t recall details on what the semi auto rules are, I don’t have any). There are limits on powder and primers, but nobody seemed to ask or care when they saw them the times I came through.

Most likely cheaper to ship it than to drive it.
If you are driving figure in 4-5 nights in a motel, food, plus fuel. Hotels alone will cost close to $1K. And none of this takes into consideration your time or potential expenses if you have a break down or wear and tear on your vehicle.

Motel? Tell me you’re an ak highway rookie without telling me you’re a rook. 🤣

12 energy drinks and no motel. 1 bag of blow. Waaay cheaper to drive it

Rookie? Hardly. I driven up or down that highway at least 25 times since 1977. This includes Jeeps, trucks, cars, Motorhomes, motorcycles, and hauling boats and atvs. And all 4 seasons including Dec and January.
Rookie? Now that's funny, lol.

I know, we all know your great migration back to AK. I was joking.

But seriously who drives up on a mission and wastes time sleeping?
