Anyone here doing the “van life” thing?

Finally got my camper van dialed in, and I’ve got to say — it’s a game changer. It’s nice being able to get out more and focus purely on the hunting and fishing, without having to stress about the camping side of things. I’ve got all the comforts of home — warm bed, heat, good food, hot coffee in the morning — but I’m still out where I want to be. Makes chasing elk or hitting the lakes a whole lot more enjoyable.

I understand how you feel. If I lived in an area where that was popular I’d probably hate them too. I hated saying “van life” in my original post but I didn’t know another way to phrase it. I’m not a millennial or a liberal. I never camp in the left lane. And I don’t have a trust fund. lol. Just a middle-aged white guy and his wife retiring next year after 25 years of government service.
I only jest. you got an uphill battle though

We are currently looking at several different options for a campervan build. Mercedes diesel vs ford gas is a big preliminary question and then the extended wheelbase or more compact size is another. Ride 2 sleep 2 or ride 4 sleep 2/4 is the other big consideration. It will mostly be for me and the wife but I’d like to be able to take one or both of my daughters (h.s and college aged right now) skiing and fishing sometimes as well.

Mostly long weekends around Wyoming and Colorado but there will likely be some bigger trips to the west or gulf coasts.

I’d like to be able to haul a light trailer with fishing raft and a little motorcycle/e-bike to be able to run shuttles when remote. The gas engine mileage will really drop with a trailer in tow.

They’re pretty expensive but the convenience and utility mean that it will actually get used a lot vs a cheaper rig that rarely leaves the driveway. I think that alone makes up for a lot of the price tag.

There is some cool design and engineering going into these things. While I’m not too much of a shopper, the vans are really fun to research and look at online and in person.

Minimal vs deluxe, inside shower/toilet, a/c, how much battery…. There is a lot to consider…
