As above. Bought a used 1star and slept 2 nights on a scouting trip a few weeks ago in the Granites. No weather really and condensation wasn’t too bad. Read this is it’s achilles heel but was wondering who has used it in late aug to mid sept when the weather sets in. Already have a “base “ 4 season 3 man tent and this tent(or your opinion) will be for spiking out if needed. Go with this or sell ASAP?

I do have a 1-person Ultrastar that I received as a Holiday gift from a friend. I do take it with me as a back-up if stuck on the mountain top or other side of the lake in bad wx or other such place somewhere for an unexpected overnite. I have not yet had to use it.

That said, I do have a Mountain Star that I have used many times sheep hunting and pack-raft float trips, and it has done me well in bad wx even when I got snowed on a couple years back sheep hunting. I know that the two tents are very different, but the material is the same and I do spray the Mountain Star with Obennauf's each year, which does help water repellency. I did spray the Ultrastar as well, and I recommend doing so if you keep it.

Thanks Doc. Heading back to the Granites again next week for final trip. will definitely treat that tent. Hopefully won’t have to use it as well. Thanks again. Rob
