Came across the first wolf that didn't see me first last week and now I am weighing my taxidermy options. Not a huge fan of shoulder mounts for predators and don't have the room for a full body. The soft mounts in the video above seem interesting, but I talked to a taxidermist the other day and he wasn't sure the longevity. His opinion was that the tanned hide could get brittle in a few years and the whole thing could crack and be ruined. He did say that fur coats seem to last so maybe his thoughts were unfounded. Looking for somebody either with a soft mount over a few years old, or someone with an idea on how long it will last.

This male wasn't the biggest in the pack but if I am being honest overall size didn't really cross my mind when I got him in the crosshairs.20241123_181125.jpg

I went full body. No regrets.

You are probably not going to get another one.
That crossed my mind as well. Had this one been a bit bigger I think I'd have a hard time not going full body. I called one in a few years back bow hunting but got busted before I could get a shot.

As a side note I should have mentioned in the original post, it is always a good time to join the Foundation for Wildlife Management. They are doing all they can to bring our elk herds back and depending on the where you kill one, the taxidermy could pretty much be paid for.

If I get one, I'll likely case skin and stretch with paws intact and have a garment tan done. Hang by the mouth in a corner of the room.

I think the soft mounts look rad! I'll hopefully be able to go that route with my next big predator harvest.
