Anyone Built Off a Gibbz Upper?

ARs have never done it for me but I have a hankering to build one as my final hurrah before I write them off completely. I'll always stash a typical 5.56 in the back of the case in case shit pops off though. I shoot left handed due to an eye disease and have no desire to shoot unsuppressed. As you can imagine, my face gets pelted with powder and gas since it has to cross my body every time.

I have a desire to build a mid length (14.5 or shorter) gun in 22arc or 6arc, left hand eject, right hand charging handle. It will be topped with a thermal and be a dedicated predator/truck gun. Gibbz looks like the nicest option out there by far. I know Stag makes some left hand uppers as well but the Gibbz seems head and shoulders above in quality. I already have a SBR'd lower that it will live on.

Seems like the only non-milspec part is their cam pin which engages the charging handle but it's included with the upper. Of course I'll need a left handed bolt carrier and bolt. I'm hoping the left eject and lack of a rear charging handle will help mitigate gas to the face. With the upper build, I'll be purchasing a flow through can just to live on ARs. Thinking CAT Noah over the 7.62 Huxwrx Ti due to the HUB mount.

Just wanted to see if there was any feedback on here regarding this brand. I know this isn't an AR type of place but I don't like those places anyway.

I built two Gibbz Arms AR's in .308 and 5.56. These were their side charge handle units, must have been 2013ish???

They functioned fine, never really got into them much and a buddy bought both of the builds off of me.

Did you run them suppressed? If so, any difference than a normal upper with a charging handle? From the sounds of it I'm going to guess you didn't get too many rounds down them it sounds like you didn't find them to be anything special.

I have one, I like it a lot and prefer it over a typical rear charger. And yeah you do get a little less gas coming back at you from running suppressed.

They ran fine. I was at a point where I was too busy with bolt actions and had way too many ARs lol. I liked the side charge handle once I got used to it.

It’s an improvement when suppressed over traditional in regards to gas. Not huge improvement though.

I had a 243 built for night hunting but I since sold it. It was built on a gibbz side charging upper. I never ran it suppressed tho. The side charge is very advantageous with thermal optics that sit back so far. They make getting to a rear charging handle a PITA. So side charge is the way to go hear. I liked it a lot and can’t say I ever had issues. I sent it down the road tho after I quit night hunting. Still kind of regret that

Built and sold an older Gibz upper to a friend. Worked marginally better than a rear charging because less gas escapes from the charging handle where mine had a bolt that screwed in. It was not a dual charging.

I picked up a Bear Creek Arsenal upper, and would suggest a straight left charger to keep gas out of your face. I couldn’t imagine shooting left handed. Uggg.
