I weighed a few of my T/C guns
Contender 20 VT 23" barrel 4.5-14 leup. 6lb 12oz
Contender 375 jdj 23" barrel 4.5-14 leup. 7lb 1oz
Encore 280 AI 26" hvy barrel 5-25 zeiss 8lb 13oz
Encore 416 Rigby 28" hvy flutted barrel 4.5-14 leup 8lb 3oz
I hunt with one in the chamber and the hammer down and a few spares in the loops on the sling.

I have successfully hunted with all of them. In my younger days I hunted several seasons with a contender pistol 12" 30 herrett.

The thing I like about them is they are shorter than a bolt gun and in the case of my 280 AI i am able to shoot heavy bullets loaded long that wont work in most magazines. For a few dollars and an hour of time the triggers can be made better than most. That being said I also have hunted with bolt guns in 243AI,270win,300win,300wby and the last 2 seasons with a 28 nosler Legendary arms with a swaro 3-18 weight 9lb 1oz

Single shots aren't for everyone and although I havent ever felt at a dissatvantage, a magazine fed gun will be a little faster on follow up shots.
And you dont have to remember to "cock" a bolt gun!

Thanks for weighing those Axlrod. That's some good info. I like them being shorter than a bolt gun too. I think that's the biggest advantage they have over a bolt gun. You may not have to cock a bolt gun.. but you do have to turn the safety off  I know a bunch of guys that forgot that step at some point lol. Myself included.
