Anybody try Maker T-Rex bullets on game?

What powder are you using with your subsonic loads? Reloader 7?

Looks like I load these with 16 grains of Lil Gun powder.

I haven’t used the 180 subsonic on game yet but the 168 grain supersonic works great. Good expansion and pass through. 30 yard shot with a 308. Bullet entered in front of the left shoulder and exited behind the right shoulder. Deer ran 25 yards down a hill and dropped.

Reviving this thread.
I've shot 8 or so deer with the 62 grn Maker TRex out of a .223. 3,100 mv.
I haven't recovered a bullet - all have been pass throughs. Exit wounds have been larger on average than I have experienced with similar weight Barnes TTSX.

Here's terminal damage from a young stag that was about 220lb LW. Low chest impact slightly quartering away. Pass through. 275 yards.

Exit side shoulder peeled back:


Lungs and heart from same animal.


Doe, quartering front on.


Another doe quartering front on low neck shot. Lungs.


Their performance seems to be right up there with other monos, or better.. They were easy to get to shoot (using Benchmark powder) and they are priced competitively. Nothing not to like really.

Been looking at the Makers recently. I saw a recovered bullet from close range and it opened incredibly wide. Apparently did phenomenal damage to the internals.

I have some 160 TReX that shoot very accurate in my 7SS with initial loads. Need to finish the workup but won’t get a chance to test on game until next year.

Old thread but interested in knowing more about Maker T Rex. Anyone know if H.O.P. ammo is using the Maker bullet in their TREX or producing their own? I've been shooting their 168 gr. for a bit and it's been very accurate out of a 16" barrel .308 Tikka (around 2400 fps). Dropped 2 whitetail at 200 and both left impressive exit wounds.

Thanks much for reviving this thread...those are impressive exit wounds for a mono and i may get some to see for myself at least in .308.

I've seen pics of the larger than Barnes expanded bullets and hadn't yet seen exits.

I am looking forward to receiving some Maker bullets for my 350 Legend and 45-70 rifles. Just like any hunting bullet I am looking for accuracy and terminal performance. I have switched to using either copper bullets or bonded bullets for use in almost all my hunting firearms. I want accuracy of course, but also expansion and hopefully an exit wound for blood trailing purposes. That being said, bullet placement makes a big difference in blood trailing. Usually need to hit that body cavity low enough in the vitals to get blood pouring out both sides as quickly as possible. I have seen it where a high hit, particularly with an arrow will also produce a pretty decent blood trail for a distance, and then it begins to taper off (one of those shots in between the vitals and the spine (not good). Any load data for 350 Legend and 45-70 Maker bullets would be appreciated. I did speak with the owner, Paul, and he told me to follow Barnes reloading data as a baseline for their bullets.

Used the T-Rex 150g in my 284 win this year on a large ND whitetail. 100yds quartering away entered behind the front shoulder took out the lungs and top of the heart. Absolutely destroyed the off shoulder, his hoof was over his back when I got up to him, only went 40 yds. No bullet recovered, but they are easy to load and very accurate.

Be careful with powder choice and charge, even using Barnes data. Start low and work up slowly to be safe.
