Hi folks, I've got a pair of Leica 8x42 Ultravid HD plus binos coming in that I purchased used. I hunt out west (Alberta), and have been reading a lot about putting any binos on a tripod for more clarity. Does anyone here tripod mount their 8x binos when glassing for a while, or is a tripod a waste at that magnification? I will be backpack hunting, so the tripod would be extra weight. I actually just sold my vortex viper spotter and diamondback binos and a canoe and motor so that I could afford these binos. I want to get the most out of them! I'm generally looking for mulies and elk.

Thanks
Matt

I use 8x and 10x binos on tripods a lot! Its amazing how much longer you can glass through binos when something is holding them up. They obviously are a lot easier on your eyes than staring through a spotter for hours. If you want to glass an area an 8x binos are enough for you, take a tripod. Being comfortable equals more glassing time which equals more animals spotted.

Yes for sure. I honestly think if your glassing for any extended period of time a tripod is the way to go regardless of the bino power. However that said I think there is point of diminishing returns as well. Most 8x with good FOV you can hold pretty steady with some kind of make shift rest as well. So will get a little less out of the tripod. However I think for the most part ....take it and you will happy you have it.

I'm thinking the same. I have a set of Leica 10x50 that I want to spot with. And wondering what guys are using to attach binos to a tripod?

Right on thanks for the advice guys! For Leica Ultravids, are you guys just using the generic bino mounts, or the stud type of mount (like an outdoorsmans)? It's a pain finding a good mount in Canada for this set!

Good call, I will need to get a tripod and mount for it. Seems like it will max my glassing times. Thanks for all the info.
