So reading about the new US triple 6 got me thinking about a old rifle gathering dust in the safe. It was a surplus 98 Mauser that was used as a graduation project for a gunsmith college that I bought cheap maybe 20 years ago. It's been all trued up and has a hand laid fiberglass stock and a medium weight 25 inch barrel in 6mm Remington . It's a good rifle that I just never gave much attention to. I was thinking about cutting it down to 17 inches for a overall 20 inches with a US triple 6. But I'm not sure how well the old 6mm / 7X57 case design works in a short barrel. Think it could still hit 2800 with a 103 ELD-X ?

I would give the 107 TMK a try, and if it didn’t like that go back to the 95 Ballistic Tip, it was designed for the 6mm Rem

I just found a Handloader article with some data running the 95 BT long at 2.94 . They hit 3400 with H4350 . That length wouldn't be a problem in the 98 . Not sure about the throat though. I need to do some measuring.
