Hey fella's. This is my first post on the forum as I am a newbie. My father and I do a lot of Whitetail hunting in Northern
New York's Adirondacks. We are blessed to have one hundred and fifty acres of wooded cover that is a very productive habitat for these deer. We hunt from a tree stand and the average shot is any where from 10 yards to maybe 100 yards
tops.

I have owned Leupolds in the past (90's-early 2000's) but have since been using either Swarovski or Zeiss due to the incredible glass they utilize. However, as I find myself over the big "5 OH" in years, I want to support American made
and owned products as much as I can. Thus the Leupold question: What are your thoughts/experience with Leupolds
VX-5HD CDS Duplex rifle scope? I am interested in the versatility, durability and quality of glass as this will be my "do
all" scope for use on a Red Hawk Rifles M700 Alaskan Clone chambered in 280 Rem.

Sorry for the long winded post and thanks for having me on the forum.

I have 3 Vx5-HD’s. I love them. Optics are awesome and totally reliable.

Picked up a vx5 3x15...limited use so far but good power range for the weight. Only complaints I hear consistently is if you dial alot they don't return to zero reliably over time. Have been using vx3 4.5x14 w/1" tube & like the 30mm tube on the VX5 better.

Don’t have a VX5, but own a VX6 3-18 and have hunted with it for two years without issue. That said I don’t dial it up much because most of my shots are closer. I have dropped the rifle a few times to the point where I was worried it would hold zero, but it always was where it should be.

hope that helps.

I just put a VX5HD 3-15x44 on my Tikka and I can tell you the clarity in regular light and low light is excellent. I compared the VX5HD to the Swarovski Z3 and Z5 and chose the VX5HD. There might have been a slight edge in clarity to the Swaro but not enough to forgo the better eye relief and sight picture of the Leupold.

For the past 2 days I’ve done low light testing with my VX5HD and the glass coatings brighten the image well enough to shoot even beyond the legal 30 minute twilight period. Also I tested the VX5HD in the woods behind the house and the coatings brighten image well enough in timber to shoot up until legal time.

Also remember Leupold’s excellent customer service lifetime warranty.

So for me, especially for a hunting scope here in the woods and fields of Tennessee, I picked the Leupold.

Excellent eye relief
Excellent low light visibility
Excellent clarity
Excellent warranty
US Made

I also got a VX3i 3.5-10x40 CDS and honestly its not too far off from the clarity and low light performance of the VX5HD. The VX3i is plenty of scope also for hunting in all conditions.

Guys, thanks for the comments. I am going to make the purchase today based on your feedback.
I was a little wary after using Swarovski and Zeiss scopes for the past ten plus years or so. But I do
want to get back to an American Made product to support our home front labor force. As I get
older this has become most important to me. Thank You ALL for your feedback. This forum is
incredible because the folks on here make it that way!

Middleofnowher,

-Good to hear! I realize the glass is from Japan ?? I believe. But the rest of the optic is USA as is the
labor force and Company local. Thanks again.
