We just moved to C-Springs area and first order of business is finding a spot to shoot closely by a spot to hunt.

Fort Carson appears to have the Cheyenne Mtn Shooting Complex as well as some OTC in 591 for elk as well as good opportunities for muley and pronghorn.

Just curious if any folks have had experience with either?

Appreciate it.

I’ve shot at Cheyenne Mtn and can offer the following:

Good- great target holders, descent benches & racks, close to town.

Bad- closely packed shooting stations, very strict rules about kids (I could only have one shooting and had to be within arms reach), rigid range assignment, beaurocratic check in.

If you just want to sight in once a year it’s pretty good but if you shoot a lot I would join a club. I just try to combine shooting with other activities in the area that take me to suitable areas (blm, usfs, etc) or I go to mMagnum Shooting center..

Magnum shooting center is great but expensive unless you shoot a ton and join. They give you rifle rests and spotting scopes and very clean benches but you pay for it and, of course, you’re indoors and max is 100 yards.

Nothing current, but when I hunted turkey and coyote down range in the early 90s I saw some very good muleys and elk and decent antelope. Got transferred elsewhere before I could draw a tag. Good luck.

I've never seen ANY elk on Carson, and I have spent more time in that "backcountry" there than I want to admit. That was 8+ years ago, things may have changed. I can't say anything about the off-base stuff near Cheyenne though.

Plenty of prong, deer, and cougars roaming the area.
