Well, I know the Archery season started yesterday but I can't head up until this afternoon. My buddy who was going to go with me backed out and I don't have any other friends who bow hunt locally so I'll be packing in alone. I like the whole aspect of solo backpack hunting but it's nice to have someone to share camp with. I'll be heading up this afternoon and coming back wednesday night. I'll probably take a few more 3-4 day trips during the season if anyone wants to share a camp. On this trip I plan to set up camp about 5 miles in at a spot I'm pretty familiar with but if anyone is looking for a partner and already has a spot they want to go to in the marbles or trinities, let me know- my schedule is very flexible right now. have fun out there

Make sure you can get to the trailhead. A few of them are basically inaccessible due to some road closures.

I went up a little above Trinity Lake on opener. Full moon and 101 degrees is not good for hunting, lol. All I saw was a couple of does and a mountain lion. Tons of elk sign, couldn't believe how much there was.

Yep, was 99 where I was, I didn't want to move and neither did anything else.

100 plus down on the river and upper 90s in the Alps combined with a brighter than normal full moon made for a pretty slow opening weekend. Temps are supposed to be 20° cooler this weekend.

Well, I ended up going alone for 3 nights. It was hot but I actually happened to find a group of nice bucks cooling off in a tiny off-trail pond in the middle of the day. Stalked in close but got busted by one I hadn't seen bedded off to the side of the pond. Saw a sow and cub and had a herd of 70 elk crest a ridge 100 yards from where I was glassing. Hope to get out there again soon

That's some of my favorite country up there in the marbles. I'm going to try to make a trip before season ends. Glad you got on some animals.

I kind of miss hunting up there. Family from yreka and we would swap sides of I-5 year to year. Now I live in Reno there's just closer good hunting grounds, that and the 2nd tag for $250 never seems worth it...
Drew my A1 tag on 2nd choice this year tho. Passed on a little forky opening day, this wed-thu is my last chance at my Cali buck.
Good luck on your hunt tho. Hope to see some photos after its done!

How'd the elk look? Any decent Bulls? Headed in there this week to help with an elk hunt. Hopefully the smoke isn't too bad.

That big herd I mentioned only had one rag horn and a couple spikes mixed in with mostly cows and calves but on the hike out a couple days later i ran into another herd that had a couple good bulls in it
