I have that book, it was kinda helpful especially if you have never hunted antelope. Has some good pictures of a various bucks.

I had the same impression. I didn’t learn a whole lot but the judging techniques are helpful. I think it’s definitely worth a read, especially if you’re new to hunting pronghorn.

I’d give Mike Eastman’s book a read. I’m not familiar with the book @wytx recommended but I looked it up and will definitely be ordering that one.

If you’re interested in ecology and Oregon specific information, Land Mammals of Oregon by B.J. Verts and Leslie N. Carroway has some good info as well, but little value for hunting. One of the most interesting things discussed in that book is historic pronghorn distribution west of the Cascades in both the Rogue and Umpqua valleys. My great grandfather spoke of pronghorn in the Rogue Valley when he was a young man. I don’t know that I’d run out and buy it just for that, though.

My hunting group has hunted 7 different OR pronghorn units and I am familiar with a couple more. If you want, pm me your unit, and if I have anything helpful about your unit I’ll share it with you.

Eastman’s book is absolutely brutal to read. It isn’t written particularly well, the information isn’t really applicable to nonresidents anymore as he talks about how he hunts the red desert every year as a resident in the 2000’s as a resident that are now 10-20 PP units. It’s still probably the best pronghorn reference but you really have to take what he says with a grain of salt.
