I've been using the down liner from my Browning Dirty Bird parka. And it's ok... But I'd like something a lot thicker (warmer/high synthetic fill) that's still very packable.

I see Browning has a higher end puff and I can get a deal on their stuff. Anyone have this?

Also like Mountain Hardwear...

Do any block the wind better than others? I always have my rain gear and it's no issue throwing my jacket on as a wind breaker. Not sure how it's done... I see guys on TV glassing in a puff and they don't look cold. But any time I do this the wind is blowing about 30 mph lol!

Thanks guys

If you're wanting a heavier warmer parka that's still packable then you absolutely can't go wrong with the kifaru lost park parka. IMO.

Yeah, good point. Sorry about that detail lol. Mid to late season. From 40 on down to I'm crazy to be out here...
I'd go First Lite...

The Uncompahgre didn't even keep me warm in the 50's in calm winds. For under 40 and well below that, combined with a down puffy that wouldn't even work for me. For those temps I'm wearing my base layer, heavy fleece, and then heavy down with maybe my rain jacket over that. Then when I'm back on the move, I'd stow the rain jacket and heavy down in or on my pack.

The only time I generate heat is when I'm on the move, so I have to keep whatever heat I start with well insulated when I stop.

I just bought a Kenai and really like it. I haven't used it in cool/windy weather like I have the FL puffy, but I like the cut a lot better and prefer the materials as they are quieter.

I picked up a backcountry puffy for way less than what I was finding most "hunting" puffys for. I used it while layering and that thing kept me WARM and it packed down into a fist size ball without even trying. I found it on steepandcheap later and almost bought another just to have a spare. Not wind or waterproof really but I used it as my second to last layer. Only real complaint is the hood is a little loud when hiking but Im a soft shell hood or preferably no hood at all kind of guy. I hate having hearing obstructions of any kind so my version of loud may be a lot different than others.

I have to agree, the FL is ok but no where near as warm as the Kifaru, that thing is toasty!

Mid to late season I go with a base layer, kryptek cerdic II hoody and my blaze orange fleece jacket. If it gets into the low 20's or below I'll add a FL Labrador vest. This year I added a Kifaru woobie for glassing and couldn't be happier. I didn't pull my puffy out once this year. I still packed my puffy just in case I needed it but found the woobie to be so much more convenient.

I love my FL puffy and find it interesting some didnt keep warm in 50 degree temps??? I wear mine all the time here in Idaho with other FL layers and have been warm in single digit temps. 50 degrees I would be warm in a t-shirt and the FL puffy with no other layers.
