Let’s say there’s no vegetation. Which side of the shoulder do you shoot (if you shoot) on this solid quarter to angle?

With archery gear, this shot is asking for a bad outcome, in my opinion. Bad shot angle+fully alert animal=problems.

If he was more frontal and less quartering, without vegetation, I would consider it. However, at this angle with brush in the way, the margin of error is too great for me.

Problem is a bunch of the social media hunters have shown that you take any shot you get, marginal or not. I can think of a few different youtube groups that would take that shot without hesitation. Problem I see at that angle is either in front or behind the shoulder, you're only looking at one lung at best and maybe liver. A bull can live a long time on one lung.

I bring up this point exactly for the reason stated above: YouTubers would lead you to believe to take almost any shot. Tree stand whitetailers would never consider a 45deg quarter to angle, yet in the elk YouTube world as of late, it seems anything goes from the ground

Just something to consider for everyone going into the woods this fall.

He's a young raghorn. Let him take a couple steps and turn a bit, and then all the way around, and then he'll still be standing there trying to figure out what you are. Even if he runs off, you can easily call him back within range again. They're like puppy dogs wanting to play most the time. So if you want to shoot him........give him time, you'll get a shot.

That’s the exact shot angle I had last week on a Colorado OTC 4x4 only it was the left side. 28 yards in thick undergrowth. I desperately wanted to kill an OTC bull on a solo hunt but I just couldn’t make myself take that shot. He eventually turned back left and walked straight away. Shot was blocked by brush when he turned. He wasn’t a big bull by any means but still frustrating. Still think it was the right call not to shoot.
