Another question for you .45-70 guys

Mine is a Marlin 1895, it has a front sight hood. Did you guys take yours off, or leave it on? I think it looks better when it is on but I know it can get clogged with things, making it completely worthless, unless your gun is scoped. What did you do with yours??

Lost three of them over the years by being pulled off by brush. After that I figured it was a losing battle and never put one on again. Didn't like them in low light either.

i have not lost mine yet but it is looooose enough. i know others that have lost them.

I had the exact same thing happen. One minute it's there, 2 shots later, it ain't.

Like the two above, mine was liberated by a slightly hot load... But ended up going with a XS setup and Skinner insert system for sighting in and playing. Then just run it wide when I carry it.

I just run the XS sights on mine, when I didn’t have those I used the Williams peep sights because I wasn’t a fan of the factory ones

I took mine off. In low light its easier for me to see the front sight without it.
