I have been doing barefoot and minimalist footwear now for over a decade. I know its not for everyone, but it works for me. I hunted elk this year in Vivo Trackers but ended up switching over to my waterproof Altra Lone Peaks for my moose hunt and wore them on the pack out with no issues.
I came across these Merrell's, I have the lowtop version of these I wear to work often, and didnt realize they made a waterproof hi top version. I might give them a shot for a lightweight deer/turkey boot. Anyone have any experience with this one?

Interesting. I see that they list it as "barefoot". Does it have no lift and a wide toe box? Not easy to tell from the pictures.

I bought some and tried them on but the arch support feels different from what I'm used to (vivobarefoot and other similar shoes). I ended up returning them. They had a pretty wide toe box and were zero drop so seem like a solid option if they work for you.

Did the waterproof Altra’s stay dry?

So I wore these for my archery elk season this year. Pros were the grip and the fact they feel like moccasins to me! Loved that. The cons: durability is pretty pathetic. The lack of a transition materiel from sole to upper has my soles starting to peel from the upper at the toes, I am hard on boots ie don’t stay on trails and but really it was like 12 days of hard use, pretty sad. The laces eyelets are all fabric, which worries me quite a bit. I would much rather have grommets or even holes in the leather. Overall I give them a C+ rating

I’ve been beating the hell out of these for a few months now and I love them. I can tell they won’t last as long as what I’m used to (mountaineering boots) but man they’re comfortable for me, great traction, and my feet aren’t begging for mercy at the end of a long day

I should also mention, their site says to go down half a size. That was not the case for me. I ordered my normal street shoe size and they fit great
