Well how about a lifetime hunting ban. I don't know if this is already been reported, searched, but did not find it.

Doesn't seem like taking away his opportunity to hunt legally will deter him much. Hopefully he doesn't figure out how to use a crossbow once his rifles are taken away because of the felony prosecution.

Through the initial interview with Carl Van Loon, he asked the officer, “What do you care what I do on my own property?… I’m not hurting nobody by grabbing deer and putting them in my freezer.”
That's a ton of poachers right there. They know what they're doing, they have their own justification for why it's ok, and they just don't care.

It has been gross to me to see the responses to this on local news facebook pages. The amount of support he has received because “he’s just trying to feed himself and who cares what he does on his land” type stuff.
Welcome to Idaho

“We heard a gun shot so we went and investigated.” What the hell?
The following day, the same officer was out on patrol when he heard a large caliber gunshot coming from the direction of Van Loon’s property. After receiving reports from neighbors who also heard the gunshot, the officer walked to VanLoon’s property boundary and found a hunting blind. In front of the blind, the officer noticed a salt block, water trough, feeder with hay and a feed bin containing a molasses-like mixture of oats and grains.
None of that seems unreasonable to me. He cites a guy for taking a deer unlicensed and out of season, and then the next day hears a single gunshot from that same guy's property. Seems pretty reasonable to look into, and apparently all it took was walking up to the property edge to see a blind and feeder setup.
