Luckily the woman attacked survived, her partner deterred the bear with spray, and had access to InReach to obtain medical care in a timely manner. Could have been a lot worse. Humans aren't the apex predator to a federally protected endangered species.

There's been some movement to delist in Yellowstone, but what of the rest of MT, WY, ID? What about the Gravellys? Never mind, the tourists don't make it out there.

I'd think the gravelly range is considered part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in regards to such conversations.

I’m sure a lot of us carry both a pistol and bear spray to have both options.

Her species could not be confirmed or identified.

Typical of a griz sow with cubs.
Certainly not normal behavior for a black bear in this country; maybe
out east, IDK. Don't think I've ever heard of a case out here of a black
bear actually getting physical in a situation like this.

What are you guys preferred caliber to carry while in grizzly country?
10mm. 200 or 220 grain hard cast. I prefer a Glock 20 or something similar that’s full size. Main reason is shootability and mag capacity. 15+1 means a lot more to me than a 6 shot double action revolver. Revolvers suck to shoot efficiently.

Other wise use what you got. 9mm with hard cast or 40 with hard cast is good too. I remember reading an article a couple years ago that there’s more documented bear kills in self defense with a 9mm than any other caliber. Of course that could be just cause there’s a lot more 9mm pistols in circulation than any other caliber.
