Another 25cal TMK Thread

Going to get started on these this coming weekend, but getting the thread started. Take the information as it is, for what its worth as an example.

Starting with a 20" 25prc......should be 3-3100. I am guessing they will run similar to the 134's

That’s smoking fast. I couldn’t get anywhere close to that with 134s in a 22” barrel. Are you seeing those speeds or hoping?

138's are 3040's and 134's are 3080 as its ran now.............plus p(ish) throated. Slight extractor mark but no lift or click.

What powder?

Ejector marks on first firing of brass? My guess is when you get to 2nd or 3rd reload it’ll get worse. I think you’re way over. Be careful.

I dont know what to tell you man. Maybe your crap is slow maybe my crap is fast. Its not my first day doing any of this. I have a pretty good grasp on what is a little and what is too much pressure. This wouldn't even show on a big action vs the Tikka. The particular barrel (with a plus p throat) that I am currently using, which could vary greatly from the one you have, will run this window with h4831, 560, and 570. I did all initial testing with powders on the same 10 sticks of brass to see if it was going to hang in there.

FWIW all my barrels are Pac-nor 7.5t Plus P'd. Even my little 25 predator case (50-52gr) at 22" runs low 3000's with 134's all 3 of them. Also Run a 24" 25 sherman (formed 280ai case) and it runs 3320 with the 134. The Prc tracks speed wise with barrel length vs powder.

So it begins. Going to work this in between customer stuff today and see what happens. Spun the 25prc barrel on the tikka and took some measurements.
If anyone cares here is how the berger 133 and 135, hornady 134 and 138 compares to the 135tmk.

Initial push with powders. This rifle still likes what it likes powder wise and the TMK didnt change this. Just cause it hit the speed dont mean it will shoot that speed.

I wonder what barrel life looks like? Im surprised you dont run out of case capacity with n570 to get that velocity.

Barrel life is probably going to be crap. Do you drive around worrying about getting 100k miles on a drag car? Slow or fast you shouldn't......whats the point of having it. There are countless Toyota Camry style offerings out there for the concerned folks about barrel life.

Good No body actually likes a camry.
I am just using a drop tube. I have done some 25 saums and the returns were pretty diminishing vs the prc case. From what I have been doing the 25's 57-65gr window seems to be where it is most giving then taps out after that and you have to start adding alot to get a little more.
