How is everyone storing ammo? Right now I’m using the plastic ammo boxes but I’ve been reading that maybe the metal ones are better for long term storage? Or maybe I’m over thinking it and it doesn’t really matter.
I use the metal ammo cans that are military surplus. I have a coworker that stores his ammo in these and his shop caught fire. He said he could tell that the rounds went off but nothing exited the ammo cans. I took his word for it and bought some for myself.
For neatness plastic or metal cans are fine though absolutely not needed. I personally store in regular cardboard packaging whether it case for or individual box. Main thing is a cool/climate controlled area. Away from moisture and harsh cleaning solvents. Ammonia #1.
I work in the industry and see more issues with guys storing ammunition in metal cans than just setting it on a shelf.
I seal the primers on ammo I intend to keep awhile. Ask the wife, gf, or daughter for old nail polish they don't want. Put a drop on the primer and wipe off excess. When I worked at the ammo plant I never did the their recipe, but I don't think it is very different.
