It talks about processed and unprocessed. Processed like bacon and ham is definitely bad. I can't make out the medical jargon for the unprocessed discussion.

Causation or correlation? In the short text that was free, there was no accounting for the myriad of other factors that could influence dementia. Factors like obesity, sugar intake, fitness/activity level, environmental pollutants, and on and on - all of these have fairly dramatic affects on the brain. Pretty sure you're safe if you take care of yourself.

this x’s 100! Lots of the “red meat bad” studies weren’t looking at people eating steaks and salads rather people who lived off McDonalds burgers and fries and didn’t exercise…

There are some problems with the abstract that was provided. One is that is an abstract and the full study would be needed for me to make a true determination about the study validity (seems like a waste of time). The second problem is that 77% of the sample for subjective cognitive decline are women. Even the objective data skews female at 65%. The raises some red flags on a cohort study as they are prone to selection bias which has the potential to essentially minimize the ability of the study to be applied more generally. As previously noted there isn’t much about type of red meat (presumably overwhelmingly beef) and what a slew of other factors. Rest easy and keep eating game meat.

I was just reminded... and this is a true story. My grandfather ate hot dogs every day of his life. He lived alone, and hot dogs were easy for him. 98 years old, eating processed red meat literally every day. He died with a perfectly clear mind, 100% intact. Cause of death was internal bleeding, nothing related to cognitive decline.

The article certainly wasn't clear. Talked about pork, which clearly isn't red meat. Also using standard deviations as too much scientific talk. It should be for the common folk to decipher.

It really does not tell you much. The problem with looking at human nutrition in the long term is that there are so many confounding factors that you cant correct for, and you are also relying self reported data.

Setting all of that aside is an elk steak the same as a burger from a feedlot raised cow shot full of hormones, antibiotics, and raised on GMO corn? In this study they dont differentiate. I can make a very well educated guess that wild game made up a trivial if any portion of red meat consumed.

Cary on eating wild game.

The best evidence based thing you can do to improve cognitive function with aging is regular exercise.
