I took my son in law to the range yesterday to sight in a couple of his rifles. I brought my stainless T3 (not X) Varmint .223 just for fun.

Well, now my SIL wants one but it seems as if the T3X Varmint, stainless or otherwise, is no longer produced. He’s not interested in paying $1,600 for a Super Varmint.

Which factory option most closely resembles the characteristics of the Varmint? Varmint contour and length, heavy stock, smooth bolt travel, proven accuracy? I’m woefully ignorant of other manufacturers.

And yes, I posted a WTB ad, but folks seem to hold on to their Varmints.

Would the 223 ctr be a good substitute?

Or a regular t3x 223 and the super varmint stock that just popped up in the classifieds!

He wants the extra weight so he can spot his shots. It’s a lot easier to see impacts when the rifle doesn’t move.

Putting a sporter barrel in a Varmint stock might look funny.

We’re going to the range today to shoot my T3 Lite stainless .223 and see how he likes it. That will expand his options.

Did you have any luck finding any other options? I am in the same boat, looking for a 223 Varmint but they are still not in stock anywhere that I can find.

For spotting shots, adding a suppressor to a standard lite would probably make more difference than anything else, especially if weight isn't a concern?
