Alternative to Sitka Jetstream?

I'm starting to outfit my 16 yo for his first back country hunt this spring. My Jetstream is the ideal jacket when paired with a rain coat. Looking for another Jetstream or something simular for him.

I have an almost new medium Jetstream in subalpine, I've only wore it a few days. Determined I need a large instead. I'd do $225 to your door.

What exactly do you use the Jetstream for? Wind blocking layer? Or just a warm softshell?

I wear a Jetstream for waterfowl hunting late in the season. It is a great jacket for picking up decoys etc. when it is cold and windy.

For big game hunting, I don't wear a Jetstream. For one, they are a fairly heavy jacket. Also, a hardshell is just as windproof as a Jetstream, and no less breathable. Plus, it will run circles around any softshell when it is raining. The only advantage I see with a Jetstream is that it is quieter than a hardshell.

For me, a hardshell + a fleece midlayer is more versatile than a Jetstream, so that is what I wear in the mountains.

I basically use it for everything. Predator hunting in the winter when the wind is blowing and I'm walking a lot. I wear it upland bird hunting. Other than a rain jacket, it's all I take spring bear hunting.

I'll check out those other options.

Kuiu Axis Hybrid. I use that jacket for everything - no layer casual 50 degree jacket or multiple layer 30 degree hunting jacket. Love it.
