Already dreaming of next year!!

With my season over, and a freezer containing two deer and elk each, success and luck were with me this year. But I am now waiting for September again. Long car rides inevitably with a question from my wife..."What are you thinking of?"

This year I hunted solo a lot and I enjoyed it more than with a partner. But my elk hunting partner is in for next year and packing out an elk solo sucks. But I would go through the suck again in a second.

My plans haven't changed much for next year. I might go to a 300 spine arrow, but other than that, I'm ready.

Anyone else changing anything significant in their set up? Or changing their method all together from last year?

Thinking about a new bow, but with a kid starting college next year it might be tough to swing that and my elk hunt. Hoping I draw something. I’m over the Colorado OTC thing. Since I drew NM last year I prob won’t draw anything for 10 years with my luck. Funny,my wife just asked my what my bucket list was. I said to go elk hunting. She said I do that every years. Yep, all I need. One day I might actually get one. But the whitetail rut is firing up. Will have to do that in KS in OK to keep me occupied. Best of luck to everyone.

Gonna upgrade a few gear items but that's about it. I've been relatively successful at finding and getting into bow range just about every year whether hunting draw units or pressured OTC units, so not looking to try anything drastically different. If it ain't broke......

Would like to find some new honeyholes. Love the spot I hunt just really sick of all the 4 wheelers but time is an issue

Time... that's one thing I do get a lot of. It's very nice to have vacation banked to go disappear into the woods. My wife gets pissed! More like jealous that I get so much time off.

I wish my Idaho spot wasn't 12 to 13 hours away. I would go hit it a few times to get a better lay of the land and explore more.

Thinking of This year, went so fast and i can't believe we are in November, i lost some good friends. Christmas is always fun plus lot of family time.

Elk have been on my mind since Sept 22 the day we got home. Good thing for deer and yote hunting to ease the pain.
This year is arrow updating time. Last year was broadheads ( iron well ) looking to get my weight up to 500 gr. Anybody have ideas I shoot 67# bow with 29.5 inch arrows. If I could get 15% foc or better would be great. Looked at daysix and gold tips. Just not sure

Congrats on being successful! It feels awesome. I too was successful on three hunts this year. Although predator season keeps me busy all winter, I am dreaming of bugling bulls already! I think I may change over to a slightly nicer spotter for finding a nice buck next year. I might just bite the bullet and get a swaro. I think you get what you pay for and I found myself sitting behind glass for hours this year!

Don’t get stuck on a percentage for FOC.

If you went with th Axis, which is what shoot, you should get 300 spine with 175 total up front. It would put you right around 510 to 525 with a 4 fletch, adaptor ring and wrap. I have the same set up bow wise as you do and the 340s shot well through my bow but they seemed to be slightly underspined. They fly well, hit really hard and you’ll get great penetration.

I say they were underspined based off of Easton’s chart. They still shot good enough to kill an elk. But they didn’t really settle down until about 30 yards. I just thought it could be a little better.
