I do solo hunts as do many of you......could you do a year or two?

I found this interesting as may some of you. A short blog with video chronicling Dick Proenneke's year in the wilderness back in the 60's. [Ugh no...they didn't have GoPros back then- grin]

I'm pretty handy with power tools....but I don't think I would have the patience for that hand work.....that has to be painfully slow.
Dick Proenneke, a True Alaskan Wilderness Pioneer

I read his book One Man's Wilderness. It was pretty cool to read about what all he did up there on his own, what he made on his own, and what he went through to build his place up there.

As someone who grew up in the city in a family of non outdoor types Dick Proenneke had a huge influence on me. His videos were a regular on my local PBS station as a kid and a highlight of my week for many years. Dick's videos and ski lessons fed my love of mountains and are the two biggest reasons I'm here today! And he did all of this with style.

Twin Lakes is at the very top of my bucket list!

Thanks for posting this. In 2006, I had the pleasure of building a cabin on the south end of Bristol bay on the peninsula of Alaska around 120 miles from the nearest road and even with modern tools, it's a very tough building environment and there are no trips to the Home Depot. EVERYTHING you need has to be shipped in somehow. That's crazy how he built his. Here's a few pics of the one we built.View attachment 46471View attachment 46472View attachment 46473

Thank God we didn't have a budget.
