Allterra Carbon Hunter 3 Review ***Updated 6/30/25***

I just ordered the new Carbon Hunter 3 stock from @Team AllTerra.
I really like the negative comb concept, though I have never shot a rifle with one. What attracted me to the Carbon Hunter 3 is that it has a molded-in grip on the fore-end and grip. I have held the CH2 at shows, and it feels nice. I can't wait to shoot my rifle with this stock.

They offer a plethora of inlets you can choose from which really makes this stock more custom fit and finish. I also chose to send them my barreled action for their bedding service. I sent them a 25 creed with a preferred carbon barrel on a Bighorn Origin action. The inlets range from the highest-end action to a stock REM700, so anyone can take their grandpa's old rifle and give it new life. You would be surprised by the difference a well-bedded stock can make to a stock rifle.

I shipped them the barreled action yesterday, so when I get the stock, I will update you on the turnaround time and my first impressions.

Allterra Carbon Hunter 3 Review
That Carbon Hunter 3 looks like an excellent upgrade - the negative comb design really helps maintain proper cheek weld with modern high-mounted optics. I'm curious to hear how their bedding service works out with your Origin action, as that's a combination I've considered for a lightweight precision build.

The molded grip texture you mentioned is a game-changer for field shooting compared to slick carbon stocks. Have you noticed if it's aggressive enough for wet conditions? Also, what weight did your setup come in at after the conversion?

Looking forward to your range report, especially on how it handles the .25 Creedmoor's harmonics. Their inlet options do make these appealing for breathing new life into older actions while keeping weight down.

I found this design to be uniquely poor for my medium-large hand size. Folks with very large hands have less trouble with it. Ultimately it's not the Clymr I hoped it would be. Hybrid grip designs like this are just hard to execute well.

I have an older version of the tikka stock reviewed here. The molded grip texture is pretty good in field conditions, both wet and snow. Probably not quite as good as well-cut sharp checkering, but certainly as good as anything Ive found on a carbon/glass stock.

Weight on mine is pretty light, it’s about 4oz lighter than the oem tikka stock—it puts my (unloaded) stock tikka lite with 24” barrel, steel pic rail, heavy duty rings and a 20oz scope at 8lb 1oz. Not sure if that has changed on the new version, but fwiw.

@NSI are you referring to the older version, or this new one with shortened trigger reach?
