We do a bit of kayak fishing the northern part of the Allegheny and have been partially successful with spinner baits.

What other baits would you guys recommend to try for them?

Is there much of a bite in this cold water? Ive been on the susquehanna but have not hooked into any.

I know a guy that used to catch dozens of them every year in French Creek. Big ones and he kept them all and cut their heads off and tacked them up on the back of his garage. It was impressive to see how many HUGE musky's he had caught. I didn't know that many even existed in those waters.

Sure he did.

I have a friend who catches unbelievable musky on the Allegheny, practically in the Pittsburgh city limits. When I fished with him we used mostly big soft plastics.

check out Red October Baits. They make big tubes with different weighted harnesses. I think the shallow models are the most versatile- you can always add a bell sinker to the front eyelet to get it deeper. You can really get them to dance in the water.
You can get these and anything else for catching musky/pike from Musky Shop or Team Rhino Outdoors(specialize in custom colors of many popular manufacturers).
Overall, if you throw hair and rubbber you should be able to connect with fish anywhere in the country.
