all leather boots, no goretex

Thanks for all the input! :)

Caminos look nice, but looking for lighter (they're over 3 lbs/pair)- 2-2.5 lbs would be better. The Trekker might work though.

Never heard of Jim Greens, will check them out.

That's sad on a White boot :( I wore Whites for 6-7 years when I was logging; would drive to Spokane to have them fitted- even in the 70's they were spendy :D

I wear the Asolo TPS 520 GV which have an all leather exterior and are Goretex lined. Asolo also offers the TPS 535 which is a very similar boot but with lighter leather and no Goretex lining. You might take a look at the 535's.

Note: By "all leather" I assume you mean no fabric on the exterior. If there are any boot mfgs still using leather on the interior as was common 40-50 years ago, I don't know of them.

@mtwarden glad you started this thread..for the past month i have been scouring for some new boots. Our requirements sound almost the same- sub 1 lbs per boot, leather outer, would like at least a toe rand if not full rand, not to paticular on the last...my current boots are hanwag alaska( too heavy and hot for september elk), scarpa terra gtx wore them until mid soles finally gave out extremly comfortable may juat by another pair, la sportiva nucleo(too narrow boot) dont really like, and Lowa Irox ( great boot still too heavy and stiff for september elk)...

I have been using a pair of Salewa Mountain Trainer mids (non Gore-Tex) that I picked up exactly for the purposes you mentioned. They are a leather upper with a rubber rand, and have a leather liner which I love. The shank is not much stiffer than an approach shoe, and the vibram rubber is a good mix of stick and durability. I have taken them through the Mazatzals, and they are my go-to off trail summer boot.

I found a Lundhags boot on eBay, they have a rubber bottom and leather shell on top. Lightweight, breathes well, dries fast.
Can be re-soled. It's a Swedish company and prices aren't cheap, but eBay can be a good bet sometimes.

The model Forest II is my to-go boot. However, my old ones weren't worth repairing, I even asked Lundhags customer service and it would almost be cheaper to buy new ones. Good thing I found a pair on eBay!

do they still make the non-Gore version, not having any luck finding them

I have a pair of the low Mtn Trainer Lites that are pretty solid, but not leather uppers

After six days in the Mazatzal Wilderness last week, I find myself wondering if anyone makes an all leather boot, relatively lightweight, sturdy outsole (Vibram or similar) with no Goretex (too hot!). My trail runners got chewed up pretty good in this environment and provided almost no protection from cactus.

I looked through the Crispi lineup (what I'm currently and happily using now) and didn't see anything.

Thanks in advance.
Have a look at the Zamberlan Latemar. May not meet your weight requirements, but a great boot.

I just did a search and am not seeing much in the non-goretex offering, either. I guarantee if I see one in my size I'm going to snag it as a back-up. I have 3 seasons on the current pair, and probably still have 2 more based on current wear.

Mazatzals will tear up gear, with catclaws on pants, shredding ASAT 3D, pants, and rocks on boots. I have had thr Lowa non goretex Caminos two years now. Quite tore up...and yes, they are heavy.
Heavy enough that I will decline resoling them. They have a great feel, endure much AZ abuse, but are still hot and heavy.

I have a pair of GTX Lowa Renegades. I don't think they would stand up to much off trail use. They are more my everyday boot. I have seriously considered getting a pair of the leather lined Renegades, though.

I live in the south. It is 80 degrees here today. For most of our year, Goretex is not needed, and is kind of ridiculous, really. But if you go to an outdoor store here, every boot they have is GTX. Same with trail running shoes.
