Did anyone hunt Alberta this year? We are looking at booking for 26. Does air canada offer a credit card to get points to save on flights or get special baggage rates?

I hopped on to post almost the exact same question.
A group of 3 of us are wanting to book for 2025 so I'm looking for all info I can find on outfitters in Alberta. Mind if we use your thread to gather info both of us can benefit from?

I hunted this year, near Falher. Warm weather kept rut activity low. Never saw a bull worth punching my tag, though meat bulls, cows and calves were seen daily, as were elk, mulies, whitetails and bears.
I drove, so can't help with the airline situation. If you fly, make sure you have a plan to get your meat home. Where I was, there were no freight companies available. That's why I drove with a chest freezer in the bed of my truck. Best of luck.

Thanks for the feedback.
Is it worth trying to push for the later portion of the rut to hopefully get better weather? It seems like I've read several accounts of warm weather slowing rut activity.

Yeah, possibly the second or third week in Oct. Historically, the first week in Oct. has been the prime week. However, my guide told me that the last couple of years, rut activity has been slowed by unseasonably warm weather.
It's a crap shoot. You go and book the second or third week and they'll tell you, "Ya shoulda been here last week".😉

I hunted with Misty River Outfitters in 2022 and had a great experience.

The owner of Bowen Lake Outfitters is active here on Rokslide and they kill some great bulls.

Both operations are out of Fort McMurray. Both offer remote, fly in hunts with good moose numbers and trophy potential.

Ok, yep I know how the timing can fluctuate on natural processes but thanks for the info. We are hoping for the second week in October if we can get in somewhere.

Thanks for the positive report!
I left a message at Misty River and will call Bowen Lake tomorrow to see what they say.

Partner and I have hunts booked with misty river for 2026. I think there all booked up for 25 and 26. Nick the owner operator is a good dude. Sent me pics of there success this year. They were 6 for 8 on there fly in hunt. Said it was a tough year with the weather but didn’t do to bad. Taking several nice bulls

We are booked with Bowen Lake for 2026. Both BL and Misty River look like they have good setups.

Hunted with misty river this year on their river hunt. Nick has a great operation and would 100 percent recommend him.

I did not. My dad did and so did the other hunter in camp. So we went 2/3 on the trip. The river ride was nice. It's long but it's through the most beautiful country.

Alberta has some great moose hunting, although this past fall was slow, especially towards the middle/end of September when archery ends for us residents who didn’t draw.

However if you decide to come, I would suggest end of October to mid November. I know it’s not what most would recommend, but after hunting this area for the last 20 years, especially in the Grande Prairie area that would be my suggestion.

The past few years I’ve saw more big bulls after the snow flies than I have before. Best of luck to everyone who comes north to try and shoot one of these beauties

1000008274.jpgI hunted with Groat Creek outfitters in Whitecourt Alberta this year. Trent is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and an excellent guide. This was my first Moose hunt. It is one thing to see bull Moose charging in when they hear the call on a video or TV, it is amazing to experience it first hand!!! I live in California and drove up with 4 150 quat ice chests in the bed of my truck. Came back with them full of the best meat you could ever hope for! Here are a few pictures of the meals I have been preparing from my Moose.
